CURRENT GREEN BELT -  WHY DESTROY THIS?

The council plan to rip up the green belt and replace it with industrial warehouses, offices and housing (again).

The entrance for the new housing is planned to be via Castlemere Close. The housing / industrial / offices sites will span on the green belt behind Tatham Grove, Castlemere Close, Gladden Hey Drive, Derbyshire Road, Crowther Drive and Allonby Close. Link 25 Business Park, Soughers Lane, Kielder Close, Drummers Lane and Downhall Green Road.

The site will span all the way up to the M6 motorway.

IF THE GREEN BELT GETS DOWNGRADED
YOU WILL BE BURDENED WITH

- MORE tailbacks along the A49 Warrington Road
- MORE traffic along M6 J25 sliproad & M6 J24
- MORE pollution from vehicles & industrial units
- Excessive noise - 24 hours a day 7 days a week
- Loss of wildlife
- Green landscape gone & replaced with concrete!
- Quality of life ruined
- No local green spaces for families to enjoy

Interpretation of what could be if the green belt gets downgraded (and that's just with Winstanley being developed!)

What the council want instead of green open spaces

- A location of around 135 hectares for high quality industrial and logistics (storage and distribution) development, with access to/from the A49 Warrington Road at, or very close to, the roundabout at the end of M6 motorway spur road at junction 25.

- An extension of Winstanley for "around" 80 homes (type uknown) accessed via Castlemere Close.

- An internal road connection with Wheatlea Industrial Estate.

- Ability of the development to be accessible by walking and cycling from Winstanley, including Castlemere Close.

Don't forget that plans are already underway to build on Hawkley Hall and Landgate!!

Current land grab in progress

Interpretation of completed sites

Landgate
- 350 homes
- a large supermarket with 300 car spaces
- road through Bryn/Landgate to bypass Bryn Cross

Hawkley Hall
- 125 homes opposite Brewers Fayre (old Taybarns).

It's gonna get busy round here!

HATE Traffic?

Coming off at J25 and queuing on the A49 (Warrington Road) in traffic is already a nightmare.

Imagine the situation with hundreds of HGV's and 3,500 extra cars going down it.

Thousands of extra cars will have a knock on effect all over the roads not just the A49.

So coming out of Winstanley, Goose Green and Hawkley Hall will be horrendous.

HATE Noise?

Houses surrounding the Green Belt suffer noise from Reeds and ASDA warehouse.  These operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Like the sound of fork lift trucks beeping every ten minutes to load up HGV's?  Like the humming of machinery in the early hours while you try to sleep?  Imagine this on 135 hectares of warehouses!

HATE Pollution?

We area already in a low quality pollution zone.  Why make it worse?

HATE the Loss of wildlife?

HATE the Loss of the landscape?

Welcome to concrete Wigan!

Do you want to lose the quality of life in YOUR area??

Many families, dog walkers, horse riders and users of the fishing ponds enjoy the are as is.  Don't let the council spoil this landscape.

Other factors

Properties in the area will get devalued.

Some houses could be compulsory purchased and bulldozed to make way for the development.

Local horse riding stables will be gone.

Local fishing ponds will be destroyed.

Flood risks.

The feel good factor about living in the area will be erased for ever!
