Article taken from the Wigan Reporter just AFTER the press release about their plans for J25.

The council have denied a garden centre opening a cafe on its site because its is in the green belt.  New owners of Billinge Gaden Centre say the need to open a cafe to help it survive.  But councillors on the planning committe threw out the bid, claiming it would set a worrying precedent of commercial development within the Wigan green belt.

Vice chairman of planning Count John Hilton warned that the committee should beware of setting a precedent that could then be exploited by other businesses anxious to build in the green belt.

He said "Once we start making exceptions we are on a slippery slope".

SO ITS OK TO TAKE AT LEAST 30 HECTARES OF GREEN BELT FROM THE SAME AREA????
